Product Description

One of the best back-stories ever! Steve Goodman saw Arlo Guthrie at the Quiet Knight in Chicago and asked if he could play a song for him. Guthrie grudgingly agreed (Oh boy, who is this guy?), saying, "Buy me a beer, and I'll listen as long as the beer lasts." Arlo later quipped, "That was the best beer ever," as "City Of New Orleans" became a big hit for him on 1972, climbing all the way to #4 on the Billboard Easy Listening charts. It was Guthrie's only top-40 hit. The lyric beautifully reflects upon the fading glory of the rail era.

This is a good song to pass around the melody to all the top voices in a quartet, or feature multiple soloists in a chorus setting.
