The first time I used a Fender Rhodes in my music was a desperate maneuver I had to make when the harp part for my "Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp" was deemed "unplayable." I immediately thought maybe the Fender Rhodes would be a decent substitute. It was, and the subsequent recording of the new "trio" was actually quite nice.

I just finished a new song cycle of a poem by Percy B. Shelley, translated into Italian by Roberto Ascoli, and was looking for an instrumental work to do next. How about a solo piano work, but using the Fender Rhodes instead? Yes indeed! And then I came upon by chance on YouTube Olivier Messiaen's "Vingt Regards Sur L'Enfant-Jésus." That is it ...

For my work I will use the same titles as found in Messiaen's magnum opus, but have decided against a two-hour work and have thus chosen only the movements with the word "regard" in its title. And then I will just do my own thing with stolen ideas from those thirteen movements.
