Concerto in D major, RV 93 Antonio Vivaldi
Arranged for Guitar Ensemble by Daniel Duarte
Originally composed for lute (or violin) and strings, Vivaldis Concerto in D major, RV 93 is one of his most beloved chamber concertos, showcasing his gift for elegant melodic writing, light textures, and rhythmic vitality. This piece has become a core work for guitarists due to its natural adaptation to the instrument and its important place within Baroque repertoire.
This arrangement adapts Vivaldis concerto for guitar ensemble, preserving its orchestral character while expanding it into a fully orchestrated guitar setting. Scored for mandolin, soprano guitar, three standard guitar parts, steel-string guitar, and bass guitar, the arrangement offers each ensemble member a distinct and independent part, contributing to a rich and balanced ensemble texture.
To maximize flexibility for a variety of ensemble settings, the soprano guitar and mandolin parts may also be performed on standard guitars if those instruments are not available. Additionally, the steel-string guitar part can be effectively performed on banjo, providing an alternate timbral option that complements the Baroque spirit of the work.
This edition allows guitar ensembles to experience one of Vivaldis most enduring works in a collaborative orchestral setting, suitable for university programs, advanced high school ensembles, community groups, or mixed-level guitar orchestras.
