PROGRAM NOTES:
This piece was written in memory of one of the composer's childhood friends who passed away in 2019. He and Jaxson met in elementary school through a mutual friend we were both close to. They both played baseball and their friendship grew. They would always make jokes on the field and in the dugout, not really caring about playing the sport and instead enjoying the time they spent together. Shortly after finished 6th grade at Ocean Springs Upper Elementary, Hunter passed due to an accident on June 1st, 2019 in Port Gibson, Mississippi. His passing had come without warning and hit his family and friends hard. Jaxson attended his funeral service on June 7th, 2019 and watched as teachers, his family, and his friends say goodbye to him. Hunters passing didnt register with him until a couple years after his accident as he was not of age to understand what his friendship meant to me. Jaxson, along with Hunter's othe friends commissioned this piece as a remembrance for who he was and a celebration of his life. Although his life was short, he made an impact on everyone he met and always made everyone around him smile. He always made the composer laugh regardless of how he felt that day and His friends and family will miss him forever. "My prayers go out to Hunters family as losing a child is never easy, no matter how long its been. Hunter lives in all of us, in our hearts, and in our minds. Thank you."
The piece opens with the hymn Abide by Me, then is followed by Nearer, My God, to Thee, then ends with Amazing Grace
