Product Description
Sr. Theophane Hytrek OSF (1915-1992) earned her PhD in composition from the University of Rochester (Eastman School of Music) in 1955. She was a longtime professor of music and chair of the Fine Arts Department at Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is known for a variety of compositional genres, e.g. keyboard (organ and piano), voice, choral and orchestra. Compositions for voice include masses, responses, psalm settings, hymns for congregation, choral music and solos.
This composition is based on the Lucien Deiss (1921-2007) vocal now available from GIA Publishing: There Is One Lord, Item #: D-ek50654 (refrain plus three verses). It is unusual for Sr. Theophane to write an instrumental on a melody by another contemporary composer. Such is the case with this piece. It was originally published in 1965 by World Library Publications in a multi volume series Biblical Hymns and Psalms.
Sr. Theophanes work focuses on the refrain though the first verses does appear in ornamented form.
There are three presentations of the refrain in widely varied treatment. The piece has broad use with or without its vocal counterpart. The difficulty level is intermediate.
Other organ compositions include: Paschaltide Suite for Organ, Suite in Honor of Mary Immaculate, Marche Nuptiale and Recessional for Organ, Offertory for Organ on Rejoice, O Mary, Heavenly Queen, Christmas Communion Number for Organ, Now the Light Has Gone Away, Chaconne for Organ, and Rhapsody of Praise, based on the Te Deum in our Heritage Music Series (see QR code below). Postlude-Partita on OLD HUNDREDTH is available from GIA Publications and Suite Gloriosa on the Austrian Hymn from Augsburg Publishing.
