Product Description

I recently discovered that the British Frank Bridge wrote four string quartets. They are very good, and each work is so very different from each other. I can see why: There is a gap of approximately ten years between each work.

String Quartet No. 1 (1906)
String Quartet No. 2 (1914-15)
String Quartet No. 3 (1926)
String Quartet No, 4 (1937)

He did compose in the same year as his First String Quartet another work entitled "Three Idylls for String Quartet" (1906). This work is more atmospheric and moody, beginning at first in dark sonorities and evolving later in a "lyrical and serene major key." It was dedicated to a fellow violinist, Ethel Elmore Sinclair, who he later married.

Frank Bridge's music was very much underrated during his time and after. Unfortunately, his major claim to fame is the fact that he was Benjamin Britten's teacher.

This is my 22nd string quartet, and I am paying tribute to him and his four string quartets by a simple mathematical function: 2+2 = 4.

SQ22 is in six movements.

1. Introduzione ... Maestoso, Largo
2. Allegretto grazioso TRIO
3. Allegro vivo, Presto
4. Adagio molto, Largo
5. Andante
6. Moderato
