The theme for this sonata struck me one day at random. I was in the third year of my undergraduate degree, and a simple, light-hearted tune began to play in my mind, carried by the gorgeous sound of a flute. I began to sketch out the opening theme in my notebook, and over time, fell further in love with the lyrical and fluid sounds of the flute. At this point, I had been playing the flute for about one year, and was blessed to be borrowing a good instrument from a friend. Exploring the colourful sounds of this instrument, as well as listening to Jazz and French impressionist music, served as further inspiration for this work.
