This song celebrates the wonders related to our Lord's being "the head of the company" at the 3rd and final Passover of His public ministry. The liturgy of the Jewish Seder at that time prescribed the singing of portions of the Great Hallel (Psalms 113-118) at various points during the Passover meal. The 12 disciples were disputing about which of them should be the greatest, and the greedy fingers of Judas were clutching the common treasury bag. Being omniscient our Lord knew all the shame, abuse and pain that He was about to endure. Indeed His blood would begin to flow in about 5-1/2 hours when the Roman soldiers began to buffet Him and smashed the crown of thorns into His head. Nevertheless He raised His voice and led the disciples in praise to Jehovah. What a profound lesson for all of us.
