Product Description

Johannes Frederik Frøhlich
was born 21 August 1806 in Copenhagen and died 21May 1860 in the same city.
His parents had immigrated from Germany, and his father was a military musician. His sister married the orchestral musician Gottlob Friedrich Kittler, who also contributed to the musical education of the young Frøhlich, the youngest of several siblings. His brother Joseph Frøhlich was a cellist and later a flautist in the Royal Chapel and served as a violin teacher to J.P.E. Hartmann. Thus, Frøhlich grew up in a distinctly musical environment.
Johannes Frederik Frøhlich became a skilled musician on the flute, piano, and violin, performing in concert as early as eight years old. Due to his exceptional talent, he attracted several patrons who ensured he received a quality education, including C.E.F. Weyse, chamber councilor Claus Christian Bang, and Friedrich Kuhlau. Claus Schall, then leader of the Royal Danish Orchestra and an accomplished violinist, became his violin teacher. At fifteen, Frøhlich was employed by the orchestra as a violin student. In 1824, he debuted as a soloist in a violin concerto by Ludwig Spohr and simultaneously began composing music.
March and Hunting Piece for 9 Differently Tuned Horns, Op. 40, was composed in 1832. In this edition, however, I have transposed the parts for 9 horns in F to facilitate more practical use.
