Contemporary ballad with a mix of Country, Pop and Musical Theater. It is the epic story of the relationship between a mother and her singer/songwriter son. In three sections and a bridge it explores three chapters of their lives together: his beginnings as a songwriter in his childhood/her being a hardworking mother; his dropping out of college/her encouraging his passion for songwriting; her last moments of life/his conceiving this very song. It is quite autobiographical with some poetic license taken. It took ten years to write and another ten or so until I felt like I had the arranging skills to do the song justice. It has been sung by one ensemble in BHS contest and received a very postive response. Considered by the composer to be his master work of songwriting.
