Product Description

Bouillabaisse was commissioned by the Mid-America Dance Company, Ross Winter, Artistic Director. It received its premiere performances May 1 and May 12, 1990 at the Edison Theater on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Performing were the Mid-America Dance Company and The Flipside of the St. Louis Chamber Chorus.

Each of the three pieces in Bouillabaisse can be performed independently, or altogether as a whole work. The score contains instructions for connecting each piece when all three are to be performed together. Due to the circular structure of the work, each piece can serve as a starting point.

This is an advanced level choral piece and includes a number of extended vocal performance techniques, including sprechstimme, boxed notation, whispers, non-vibrato, etc.

Note: The recording accompanying this score includes about 30 seconds of the sound of the chorus walking onto the stage while bells ring. The composition begins a few seconds after the chorus is assembled.
