Product Description

These short exercises are intended for all levels, but broadly speaking, early learners will find the earlier exercises to be playable, while more advanced performers will be able to tackle the later exercises.

Each numbered exercise may be played at any speed the practitioner feels is desirable. The only thing is to ensure a relaxed hand, relaxed fingers, and that the volume of notes is produced consistently across the hand throughout the exercise. It is advisable that the exercises should be repeated a number of times rather than played once-only; they are not designed to be played through from one to the next; they are merely presented on a continuous flow for expediency.

The exercises may be played anywhere on the piano, on any notes, within reason of the reach of the hands, as long as the notes are adjacent, or nearly adjacent (e.g. F sharp played with the third finger of the right hand is considered adjacent to E played with the second finger of the right hand). A few exercises notate a spread position wherein the thumb and little finger are extended one note further than the one adjacent (15-17, 42 and 43 alternate between spread and closer positions, while 32-41 utilise the spread position exclusively); however once again the player may change which notes they play in order to incorporate some black notes. The main thing in all cases is to follow the order of the fingering given, hence why every note is given a fingering.
