This work is a wind quintet version of the original piano piece. Alla Marcia takes the concept of 'march' as a starting point, before taking its own, original course. The piece is framed by an introduction and coda, and particularly features a catchy, recurring main theme in C minor, centred on tonic and dominant minor harmonies. This theme is contrasted by episodes of tension created by chromatically descending parallel triads against a tonic pedal point. The work explores a wide range of instrumental pitches and colours, as well as features such as rhythmic interplay and chromaticism. The work is highly accessible for the listener, and playable for most standards of wind quintet. This PDF document is fully complete for performance and includes a full score as well as each instrumental part. The original solo piano version of Alla Marcia is also available via SMP.
