My family has owned a small camper on Long Lake near Cold Spring, Minnesota, just twenty minutes southwest of St. Cloud, since 2006. We visit often during the summer season, and I have many fond memories from my childhood that still resonate with me today. Whether it was riding my bike around the campground, spending a day out on the boat, or roasting marshmallows by the fire, it was always our "getaway" spot in the summeran area that holds a special place in my heart.

Cold Spring and its neighboring city, Richmond, are known for the Sauk River Chain of Lakes, which consists of fifteen interconnected lakes, all fed by the Sauk River.

"Cold Spring" for solo marimba is intended to capture the essence of these memoriesboth old and newand to evoke the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. There are moments in the piece that reflect the sounds of boats driving by underwater, adding to the feeling of this special place.
