Product Description
This oboe solo for Lent is an instrumental, peaceful arrangement of the original song which has been used in churches for Ash Wednesday and Lent for several years now. It is a reasonably easy arrangement, so as to let the musicians focus on the deep solemnity and unhurried mood of the piece, appropriate for a prelude, postlude, or other instrumental music during the season of Lent or also for funerals.
Also available by searching this website under Forty Days and my name you can find sheet music and other related pieces for several other instruments, including viola, cello, clarinet, and more, as well as the original congregational version with full harmony intended to be used throughout the Lenten season as a prayer or meditation.
An idea is to use this solo as a prelude or postlude a week or two prior to introducing the congregation to the lyric version, as it helps familiarize the congregation with the melody so it's even easier to learn and sing in a later service. Forty Days (From Ashes We Came) was specifically written for this purpose, and is intended to serve as a song to tie the various weeks of Lenten church services together, as a responsorial song that can fit anywhere in the service that needs a solemn moment of introspection and faith or even as a beautiful choral anthem for an Ash Wednesday service.
See the youtube link for an ideal presentation- consider using a soft keyboard pad sound instead of piano for an even more ethereal effect! Also available, by searching "Stacey Plays Hymns" and the song title on this site, is a lead sheet version and a choral version with all the parts printed separately.
