Finlandia is the best-known work of Jan Sibelius, written in 1899 as a covert protest against Russias increasing meddling in the affairs of Finland. The 8-minute work is stormy, rousing, and patriotic in character concluding with a magnificent climax. The dramatic arrangement for 11-part Brass Ensemble and Timpani by Randall Malmstrom is appropriate for advanced performers.

Instrumentation is: 3 trumpets (parts in C & B-flat), 4 horns, 3 trombones, tuba & timpani.
