Product Description
A joyful fantasy for Wind Ensemble, based on three hymns commonly taught to children. The central theme, from whence the title comes, is "Jesus Loves Me, this I Know." It's opening six notes form the opening motif, which is repeated throughout the piece. The melody of the hymn is then inverted, forming the first theme, which is passed around the ensemble. While the verse of "Jesus Loves Me" is repeated through multiple variations through the entire piece, its affirming chorus ("Yes, Jesus loves me") is only heard near the end. Supporting and contrasting this central themes are "Michael, Row the Boat Ashore" and "Jesus Loves the Little Children" ("Tramp, Tramp, Tramp"). "Michael" appears most often in the lower voices of the ensemble, first in an irregular meter, where the note values get shorter throughout the phrase. "Jesus Loves the Little Children" imposes a jauniter rhythm and feel, halfway through the piece, marking the transition from from anxiety and dissonant doubt to joyful, child-like celebration. The piece runs for just over 5:20. A great programmatic piece for any concert.
