Product Description

String players typically love playing Bachs Brandenburg Concerto #3, scored for three violins, three violas, three celli, and continuo. Each part takes the lead at multiple points in the music, so each player has an important and challenging role to play. However, the unique instrumentation leads to a less-often performance, because it is written for something larger than a traditional chamber group (i.e. string quartet), but smaller than a traditional full orchestra. Therefore, string players dont have much opportunity to perform it. This arrangement for String Trio takes the important parts of each original part and places them into a single part for each instrument, violin, viola, and cello. The first movement of the piece is abridged, making it a bit shorter than the original, while the third movement is the same length as the original. In the video and mp3, the repeats in the third movement are not used. Interestingly, the second movement of this piece is only two notes, leading to endless arguments among musicologists as to why Bach did this. Im not goring to weigh in here on that controversy, so just enjoy it for what it is.
