Askins was a 19th Century Irish Methodist preacher who moved to the United States. Moore was a 19th Century composer and publisher from Tennessee. The song is also called "Holy Manna" and is a very early American folk hymn. Section A and B exposit the tune. A modulation to a new key occurs at the end of section B with the aid on an Italian augmented sixth chord. Section C then adds a descant by yours truly.
