Product Description
RISING is program music inspired by three paintings by Atlanta, Georgia based Artist/Symbolist Krista M. Jones (also known as JONESY). Her three artworks were titled Rising, Chimera, and In Thirds.
The work reflects the avian themes among the three paintings. I also envisioned the music to be combined with live dance/original choreography. While the dancing is optional, this would be a great opportunity for a cross-disciplinary experience, encouraging collaboration between fine arts departments!
Specific playing techniques for string players include sul tasto, spiccato, and tremolos. The flute and clarinet get to showcase their singing tone and individual timbres. The piece is in a loose ABA form, with a bird call introduction, followed by lyrical lines, an upbeat main section, and a satisfying resolving ending harmony.
Great for multiple levels of players: high school-college, amateur, to professional ensembles to add to their next program. Again, (I highly encourage) this piece is a chance to incorporate dance or other movement elements alongside the music.
