Product Description
Few songs in rock history can match the sheer drama, intensity, and theatricality of Bat Out of Hell. Composed by the legendary Jim Steinman and immortalized by Meat Loaf on the 1977 album of the same name, this epic piece defies convention, blending rock, opera, and storytelling into a musical tour de force.
The song is a high-octane narrative of rebellion, desire, and the restless energy of youth. It tells the story of a motorcycle rider speeding toward his ultimate, tragic fate. Steinmans signature stylelush harmonies, driving rhythms, and sweeping melodiesis on full display, drawing inspiration from classic rock and roll, operatic grandeur, and the larger-than-life storytelling of Wagner and Springsteen. Bat Out of Hell was also used by Steinman to close out Act 1 of Bat Out of Hell: The Musical, the final evolution of his 1969 show The Dream Engine.
This arrangement for Concert Band or Wind Ensemble calls for expanded instrumentation, a rock combo consisting of 2 electric guitars, 1 electric bass guitar, piano or keyboard (amplification recommended) and drum kit. In addition, parts have been included for all currently manufactured "harmony" clarinets. Where the contra-alto and contra-bass clarinets are not doubled, they are cued in the bari sax, trombones, and tuba. There is also a recurring duet between the piccolo and alto clarinet. The alto clarinet part is cued in the bass clarinet.
This arrangement includes transcriptions of Todd Rundgren's original solos. The motorcycle effect was originally performed on a Fender Mustang with stock whammy bar.
Tempo markings are not absolute, but correlate closely to Meat Loaf's original 1977 recording. This arrangement is unabridged and in the originally recorded key of F Major.
