This tune was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Original Song in 1949. Frank Loesser and his wife performed an earlier version at private parties prior to its inclusion in the MGM movie, Neptune's Daughter. The show was one of several produced by MGM with the successful formula of talented, attractive Ester Williams in a bathing suit. The music is featured in a scene with Williams and Ricardo Mantalban which transitions to a verse with humorist Red Skelton and Betty Garrett. The lyrics are a model for over coming arguments with gentle persuasion.

This arrangement uses the upper register of the trombone in the playful banter, contrasted with a trombone in the lower register. If used with the optional rhythm section, there is a chorus for a piano solo and a trombone solo (chords in Trombone 3).
