Nearer, still nearer, close to Thy heart, Draw me, my Savior, so precious Tho art.

This classic hymn has been arranged with inspiration from Schubert's Impromptu, Op. 90, No. 3. The first verse in G-flat major has flowing triplets in the inner voice with the melody above. The second verse changes key enharmonically to D major in a meditative style. After a modulation returning to G-flat major, the last verse begins triumphantly with octave chords in the treble over a broken chord triplet accompaniment in the bass. The ending contains an excerpt from Schubert's impromptu, then a final statement of the opening melody of "Nearer, Still Nearer."

The lyrics are included in the score so that the performer can meditate on the text while playing.
