Product Description

Originally composed by Gustav Holst, this is an arrangement of In the Bleak Midwinter for a percussion ensemble of eight to nine players.

This piece opens with the melody in the first vibraphone, played at a soft dynamic to calmly introduce the melody that runs through the entire place. The second vibraphone plays arpeggiated chords to guide the melody.

The repeating melody slowly builds, adding a marimba countermelody and moving the arpeggiated chords to the glockenspiel part. Finally, the piece reaches its climax when all percussion parts join in, and the non-pitched percussion parts drive the melody forward.

To finish, the first vibraphone original melody is reintroduced, as the piece builds to a satisfying and calming ending that reiterates the original mood of the piece.

Instrumentation:

- Glockenspiel
- Vibraphone 1
- Vibraphone 2
- Marimba
- Timpani
- Percussion (Optional - play on drum kit)
- Chimes
- Suspended Cymbal
- Sleigh Bells
