Heraclitus was a philosopher from Ephesus, a Greek city under Persian rule around 500 BC. No writings by him have survived. We only know fragments of his writings from quotations found in later philosophical books. He is a fascinating and enigmatic figure who shares some similarities with Eastern philosophy, such as One cannot enter the same river twice and Out of all things comes one, and from one all things come into being. This piece is a small suite in six movements. The first, third, and fifth movements are performed on toy piano, while the second, fourth, and sixth movements are performed on piano or piano and toy piano.
