Product Description
Traditional Scottish melody ("Robi donadh, Gorrach") from Albyn's Anthology, ed. Alexander Campbell, Vol. I (Edinburgh: Oliver & Boyd, 1816), p. 44.
Arranged by Konrad Harley (1986-), 2024.
1. Leave thee, loathe to leave thee,
My heart how it aches!
'Tis honour thus, believe me,
My soul love-proof makes:
My big swoll'n bosom rending,
Feels now a fiercer glow;
The Host our Cause defending,
I join, to face the foe.
2. To check the tyrant's madness,
And peace to restore;
A season brief, with gladness,
I go where cannons roar;
Where champing warsteeds neighing,
Impatient, paw the ground,
The hostile lines surveying,
Till swells the charge's sound.
3. But should propitious powers
Protect me from harms,
Return'd, the joyous hours
I'll while, clasp'd in thine arms!
Then hush those struggling sighs, love,
That would my soul subdue;
And dry those tearful eyes, love;
One kiss adieu! adieu!
-text by Alexander Campbell (1764-1824)
