Johnson was a 19th century writer and hymnist from Ohio. Towner was a 19th century hymnist from Pennsylvania. The hymn was originally in a sweet waltz like meter. Here, it has been changed to "alla marchia" or a march like manner. Section A and C are the verse. Sections B and D are the chorus. A modulation to a new key occurs towards the end of section B with the aid of an Italian augmented sixth chord.A descant by yours truly is the added beginning at section C. The 1st repeat is OPTIONAL.
