In the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico (a territory of the United States), perhaps there is no melody that better represents Christmas than the Villancico Yaucano (Yaucano Carol) by Amaury Veray Torregrosa, making Puerto Rican culture and folklore known around the world. The carol premiered during the Midnight Mass in 1951, at the Santísimo Rosario Church in Yauco. According to the author, "the first parts of the carol are part of the traditional Spanish one." The adaptation, meter and letters of the Yaucan text were his inspiration. This arrangement is scored for 4-part SATB ensemble to be performed a cappella with the original Spanish lyrics.
