Product Description

The first movement is in 3/4 time and takes the form of a Sonata. Usually, two contrasting themes appear in the sonata form, but in this movement, two themes with Eastern and Western characteristics are contrasted. The second movement is in 4/4 time and is composed in ABA form, where the instruments alternately play lyrical and slow melodies. The third movement is in 3/8 time and is written in ABA form with a lively and humorous A theme and a slow and majestic B theme. The fourth movement is in 4/4 time and takes the form of variations that quote the theme of this symphony, Ong hye Ya. Ong hye Ya is a traditional Korean folk song that was sung in the Gyeongsang Province when threshing barley, and it is said that it was sung to encourage each other while doing such difficult work. As the nature of the theme suggests, an exciting conversation continues between the parts, giving and receiving. The musical atmosphere is heightened by the use of flashy arpeggios and colorful bariollage techniques.
