I think White Christmas, by Irving Berli, is one of the most iconic Christmas songs ever written, and it is certainly my favorite!
The arrangement I propose is for solo voice and Jazz Ensemble (Big Band).
The structure is traditional: it begins with a typical Introduction and then immediately the exposition of the theme performed by the solo voice.
The background is entrusted to the saxophones, to which are added, in the second part, all the brass instruments.
Then follows a short pick-up to launch the tenor saxophone solo and, immediately after, a modulation where the drums comment on the "Tutti Orchestrale" alternating for 16 bars with the first trombone. The latter will then continue his solo for the remaining 16 bars.
The last chorus is divided into two parts, both characterized by a pressing modulation.
The first part is entrusted to the orchestral special, where the sections chase and exchange, now with harmonized phrases, now with parts in the background, while the second part sees the re-exposition of the theme (in a new key) naturally entrusted to the solo voice.
The finale comes directly after a short drum fill.
I thought of offering more alternatives for performance, also adding a complete part for vocal quartet in place of the solo voice, in addition of course to 4 solo parts (always in replacement or alternation) for instruments in Bb, Eb and C (treble clef and bass)
The overall duration is about 5 minutes.
As always, I hope that this arrangement will be to your liking and I wish you..
Good Music!
