Davies was an 18th century minister, writer, administrator, and hymnist from Delaware. Newton was a 19th century machinist and hymnist from Nottingham, UK but was no relation to the John Newton of "Amazing Grace." Sections A and C are the verse. Section B and D are the chorus. A modulation to a new key occurs towards the end of section B with the aid of a French augmented sixth chord. A descant by yours truly is then added in section C.
