Product Description

This lyrical and tender arrangement with lush pedal with will capture your students' hearts. It was written for two sisters who frequently play duets together. One day the older sister asked, "why does my younger sister always get to play the melody while I have to play a hard accompaniment?" I said, "you are right. That isn't fair that you rarely get to play the melody." So I set out to compose a Christmas duet that gives the melody to the harder secondo part.

The primo part is for the early-elementary pianist. It is written in the "middle C" position, but is played two octaves higher on the piano. The opening and closing sections contain excerpts of the melody, while the middle section features a lyrical harmony line. Dotted eighth notes are frequently used, but always played in unison with the secondo part so the pianist can model the more advanced rhythm skills of their duet partner. The middle section features rolled C chords in the right hand.

The secondo part is for the late-elementary/early-intermediate pianist. The melody is featured during the opening and closing sections, while the middle section features a lyrical interlude. There are frequent position shifts in both the treble and bass clef. However, the bass clef features a simple ostinato pattern to make the left-hand shifts a bit more predictable. Pedaling is used throughout the entire piece requiring the pianist to have rhythmic hand-foot coordination.

This piece is the perfect, non-equal duet for two siblings, two friends, parent and child, or teacher and student! The music includes a score and 2 individual parts so you can choose how to display the music on the piano rack once students are ready to rehearse together.
