Henry Clay Work composed Marching Through Georgia in 1865.Written from the point of view of a Union Soldier fighting in the American Civil War, it celebrates General Shermans victory known as the march to the sea. Drums and Fanfares, originally played on Bugles, are integral to the composition, and were used to boost morale as well as providing tactical signals to the troops.
