The 5 O'clock Sunrise is a lyrical, expressive piece meant to evoke images of peace, nature, and stability. The piece loosely follows a rondo form, with a repeating motif of an Ab pentatonic scale, contrased with moving tonal centers and time changes. The piece concludes with a freely improvised section, where the performer is encouraged to explore the established motifs, though a transcription of the composer's interpretation is included as well.

The 5 O'clock Sunrise requires a standard 3-octave vibraphone and four mallets, and it apropriate for intermediate/advanced vibraphonists.
