Product Description
Taken from one of only a handful of albums that defined the 'Rock n Roll' era, this beautiful song from Lou Reed's groundbreaking album, "Transformer", still Lou Reed's biggest-selling album, thanks largely to the extraordinarily innovative and diverse collection of songs - each one a little masterpiece in its own right (innovation and originality were Lou Reed's trademark since the release in 1967 of the seminal Andy Warhol-produced masterwork, "The Velvet Underground & Nico") - but also the contribution of emerging 'glam-rock' stars, David Bowie and 'Spiders' guitarist, Mick Ronson, who not only produced the album, but contributed vocals, piano, guitar and (Ronson's signature superb!) orchestration! A truly unique album, the 'surprise hit' was "Walk on the Wild Side" - but every song from "Transformer" was a 'Hit-in-the-making'! Not the least of which is "Perfect Day"! There is NO guitar on the studio version; only Mick Ronson's subtle and distinctly 'Bachian' piano, percussion and strings/synth. There is a demo with Lou accompanying himself on guitar (and the lyrics: "Just a Summer Day"!!), which has been included in various re-releases/remasters of the album. Reed's accompaniment is a straightforward strum, which can be effectively incorporated into my arrangement, which is intentionally 'minimalistic' to allow for individual and idiomatic interpretations. Enjoy!
