Product Description

GOOD BYE PORK PIE HAT- for Jazz Ensemble/Big Band. "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" is a jazz standard written by the legendary bassist and composer Charles Mingus. The song is a tribute to the influential tenor saxophonist Lester Young, who was known for wearing a distinctive pork pie hat. The melody of "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" is haunting and reflective, built on a slow, bluesy framework. Rich harmonies and a modal approach pushes the song into more avant-garde territory while still holding onto its blues roots. The balance between simplicity and complexity in the composition is one of its most enduring qualities. This arrangement features the tenor sax (of course). It is harmonically complex and features a soli section in addition to the sax solo. The piece ends with the tenor solo completely on its own. This piece can be moody or wild depending on your soloist. Lead Trumpet up to C6. Tenor up to F5. Advanced intermediate level.
