This short, legato violin solo (inspired by a poem by Goethe) is filled with contrasting dynamics and
articulations. A strong sense of drama is created in this expressive, flowing study. The piano accompaniment is
equally harmonically intriguing, frequently using diminished chords and other subtle harmonic devices and
nuances. This piece is an excellent vehicle for the violin student to develop intonation and balance.
