How Great Thou Art is one of the world's most universally beloved hymns. Being Swedish, I have always loved this hymn, the melody of which is based on the Swedish hymn, O Store Gud (O Great God.) It was written in 1885 by Carl Boberg. The English version and its title, How Great Thou Art, are from a translation by the English missionary, Stuart K. Hine, around 1949. Even without words, the simple melody of this piano solo version suggests hope and trust, and it soars with passion as it progresses. How Great Thou Art is featured on the EarthStar Recordings album Prayers at Twilight: Hymns of Comfort and Peace.
