About the Composer:
François-Auguste Gevaert (18281908) was a distinguished Belgian musicologist and composer. His early music education was at the Ghent Conservatory under Édouard de Sommere and Martin-Joseph Mengal. Gevaert's compositions earned him the prestigious Belgian Prix de Rome, which facilitated his travels to Spain and Italy. His career included significant roles such as Chef de Chant at the Academie de Musique in Paris and head of the Brussels Conservatoire. Although his compositions are less known today, Gevaert's legacy as a teacher, historian, and lecturer continues to inspire. Notable students include Alfred Wotquenne and his daughter Jacqueline Marthe.
