This choral piece uses the theme from Jean Sibelius's Finlandia, taking the same textures from the orchestral score and transferring them as a SATB choral work. The soprano and alto parts have divisi that can be modified for a smaller choir if it cannot manage the divisi. The text is an English translation by Edward Caswall of the Latin hymn Alma Redemptoris Mater. This hymn is traditionally used as one of the four Marian antiphons used in the Liturgy of the Hours throughout the year, and is assigned from the beginning of Advent to February 2 of the following calendar year. The second page of this score can be printed for as many congregants as necessary, provided enough copies have been purchased for the members of the choir.
