This is my reimagination of the popular Gregorian chant 'Dies Irae' that has been utilised by numerous composers in various works (e.g. Berlioz, Liszt, film composers). Every melody in this piece is derived from the original chant, including the barcarolle in the middle section that attempts to depict the River of Paradise. As expected, the piece is dark and moody. But it also has happier moments unlike common treatments of the plainchant, because the End Times would also be ushering in a new Heaven and Earth where sorrow and death will be no more.
