Product Description

In 2004, I composed a Saxophone Concerto for Detlef Bensmann, which he premiered in Switzerland of 2004. Not long after the premiere, I wanted to introduce the piece to other saxophonists. As a result of this process, I met saxophonist Greg Ridlington who was a member of "The President's Own Marine Corps Saxophone Quartet." When in not in uniform this ensemble went by the name of the Third Rail Saxophone Quartet. After the group played my Three American Dances, Greg commissioned me to compose a piece for Saxophone Quartet and Pipe Organ. The organist was also a saxophonist member of the US Marine Band. Given that the premiere was to take place in a Washington, DC cathedral, I followed in the footsteps of Bach, Haydn, Mozart and other composers who created music related to the parts of the Mass.
As a result, the title became Mass Without Words for Saxophone Quartet and Organ.
This piece was composed in 2004, and is 27 & 1/2 minutes in duration.
Although this composition is completely instrumental, the movements are:
I. Kyrie (Lord, Have Mercy)
II. Gloria (Glory to God in the Highest)
III. Sanctus (Holy, Holy, Holy)
IV. Agnus Dei (Lamb of God)
