Product Description

"House of the Rising Sun" is a gritty, melancholic folk song that originated in New Orleans. Some versions say it depicts the downfall of a dissolute gambler; some say it tells of the ruin of many a poor girl. It is a haunting tune set deeply in a minor key that pulls you in with its harmonies. Appropriately, the cello opens with the destitute melody that tugs at your heartstrings. When the 1st violin takes over the melodic line, the cello accompanies with arpeggiated figures. Pizzicato lines and harmonics are included in the cello part, which punctuate the adaptability of the instrument to furnish varied and interesting support to the soulful, lonely tune.
