The song by French composer Michel Legrand, with English lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman (they wrote the words to dozens of hit songs), was the main theme of the 1968 Steve McQueen/Faye Dunaway flick "The Thomas Crown Affair." It won that year's Oscar for best original song. The best-known version is Brit singer Dusty Springfield's haunting rendition for her 1969 album "Dusty In Memphis."
This arrangement features french horn carrying the melody most of the way in a low register.
