This Indie-Rock song by The Shins from their 2001 album "Oh, Inverted World" was a special request - one of many - by a bride & groom for their wedding. My first reaction was one of doubt as I pondered how I could make this divergent sound work for a String Trio. The more I listened, the more I heard the haunting melody and the lyrics speaking of internal struggles and the need for introspection. Yes, "caring" can be very unsettling and at times even frightening. Relationships are complex. You have to invest emotionally. (...kind of like I had to do to pen this compostion for a string trio!) The arrangement is very straight-forward - yet simple - but it works. After all, we often have to find comfort in unconventional choices. As the lyrics tell us: "...never got cold wearing nothing in the snow."
