"Going Home" is the main theme of the 2nd movement of Dvorak's New World Symphony. The title was based on the poem set to the music by the lyricist, William Arms Fischer (1861-1948), a student of Dvorak's. From the poet: "The Largo, with its haunting English horn solo ... is a moving expression of that nostalgia of the soul that all human beings feel." As such, it is a most appropriate work and text for a memorial, funeral service or for All Saints' Day.
It has been transposed from Db major to C major to make it more accessible to the average player.
