There's not a true melody line in this piece but the changing notes in the left hand give this beautiful piece some added movement. The performer is given the freedom to decide whether to play it fast or slow. 

This piece can easily be taught by rote because of the repeating patterns. Pedagogically, it would be interesting to explore the changing intervals in the left hand, to listen to the difference between 5-4 and 4-4 time, and to discuss why the piece is in G minor.
