This Prelude on the Christmas carol tune Christmas Song ("There's a Song in the Air") is the first of two settings I have created based on this tune. This setting requires only a two-manual organ and is of moderate difficulty. Structurally, the piece begins with an introduction that makes use of the dotted eighth/sixteenth rhythm that pervades the tune itself. A fresh harmonization of the first two phrases of the tune follows. They are succeeded in turn by an interlude similar to the introduction. A harmonization of the third and fourth phrases of the tune is then presented. A shorter interlude leads to a varied restatement of the last phrase, itself followed by a brief postlude, again employing the aforementioned dotted rhythm. I have provided a full-length recording to aid the prospective buyer in the decision-making process.
