Product Description

Prominent Afro-Haitian pianist and composer Justin Elies Tango-Habanera Tropical Dance No. 2 captures the appealing elegance of Caribbean music
. Elie studied at the Paris Conservatory and settled in the United States in 1921. His adaptations of Haitian melodies into miniatures led him to performances at Carnegie Hall and international concert venues in addition to composing music for silent films, and in 1931 his own New York radio show, The Lure of the Tropics. Arranged for a traditional woodwind quintet of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon, with alternate parts clarinet in B-flat substitute for oboe, alto saxophone in E-flat substitute for horn, and bass clarinet in B-flat substitute for bassoon, the alluring work entices audiences and performers. The recording is of the entire edition.
