Henry Purcells setting of Music for a While, from his music for the play Oedipus, by John Dryden and Nathaniel Lee (1678), was long a staple of my concert repertoire and hard to match for its elegant and expressive beauty. This choral setting is my own attempt to do justice to the text and to the spirit of Purcells original.
